The Worm Below is the largest avatar to make itself known on Aldan. Its body stretches more than a mile in length and is thicker than the great Tower of Belaqua at the Great Crossroads. Its shape blends the features of several burrowing creatures in unsettling ways. The Worm's flesh appears dark and slick like wet stone, occasionally broken by plates of ancient bone or chitin. Its head is blunt and immense encircled by a ring of pale sensory nodules like milky white eyes that do not see.
Though it embodies the end of things, The Worm Below is rarely considered malicious. It simply represents the final certainty. Every fallen tree, every buried body, every collapsed city eventually becomes part of the deep earth. The Worm simply shepherds that process. Its purpose is not destruction, but completion.
