The Endless Road

It is known as Sunchaser to the horse tribes of the Belgan steppes. It is called The Turtle’s Drag by the Ummbri frogmen of the quagmires of tropical Ishib’an.  And simply the Goodroad to the warring city-states of Dahl and Orryn. Depending on where you walk it, you will hear different names for the never-ending road that runs east to west across the entire face of the world.

Many believe that the road truly has no end, and you can walk forever. Others say you will walk a great circle and someday return to where you first stepped on the path. Whether it is endless or not, the road is there, cutting through every land and kingdom.

Built ages past by unknown hands, not much is left of the original road, and those remnants are circumspect. It can be one hundred feet wide and paved with white marble in one place or a simple gravel path – narrow enough to jump over - in another part of the world. The road is of great importance to many peoples and kingdoms - the main artery of trade and travel for hundreds of villages, city-states, commonwealths, and nations. In some lands, it holds an almost religious significance.

This is a realm of wondrous and magic-filled journeys, altogether both dangerous and rewarding. Magic is common, with strange monsters, mystical events, and powerful artifacts to be found. Adventurers of all kinds travel the Endless Road, offering their exceptional talents to anyone in need of heroes, guards, or mercenaries. It can be a harsh place. Venture too many leagues north and you enter the Dry Lands, endless deserts, rocky steppes, and salt flats. Too far to the south and you are blocked by mountains of frost and snow protecting an impassable sea of ice. Those that stick to the road can reach any place in the world worth reaching.
